Have you ever had the feeling that the slightest mistake would be disastrous for you? Have you ever been tormented by the fear of making a mistake that would cause you huge problems? Has this ever kept you awake at night?
Accepting mistakes enables your teams to improve themselves. It supports continuous learning. In addition, you relieve them of the enormous stress that weighs on the shoulders of those who have no right for error…
Adopting this approach allows people to sleep more peacefully, have more confidence in themselves, and deliver better results. Once again, you boost well-being while benefiting from better performance.
There are two elements to consider:
1- Nobody is perfect
2- Everyone can improve
Encourage everyone to go out of his/her comfort zone, make some mistakes, get back up and learn from it. That’s how they will progress.
For this to be successful, it is essential to build a relationship based on trust and feedback. Your people need to know that they have your trust. They also must know that they can trust you to provide them with the best support and feedback. They should not be afraid to ask you for help when they need it. Offer them regular and constructive feedback so that they can keep learning.
💬 What about you, do you value trial and error in your company?
We all love to be in control of our own actions. Even if it is not always entirely possible in the professional environment, it is essential to promote initiatives.
Without the opportunity for initiatives, it is very likely that your people feel trapped or come to work dragging their feet. In that case, they don’t feel fulfilled and aren’t fully efficient.
Give everyone space to take initiative, or even better, promote it! It testifies of the trust you have in their ability to bring value to the organization. You’ll quickly witness the positive effect it has on your relationships and on their willingness to provide their best.
You may be surprised what your employees are able to offer you when allowing creativity. Who knows, one of them might have THE great idea that will be revolutionary for your company…
Are you familiar with the SMART method?
Objectives always need to be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound.
This goal-setting method should be remembered and applied as often as possible! It helps everyone to achieve motivating goals through an optimal organization.
For example, say “The goal is to increase this unit’s performance by 20% by December 2021”, rather than “I would like this unit to perform better this year”.
Challenging goals are engaging and stimulating for your collaborators.
But be careful to keep them reachable. How can we stay motivated if we know it’s already hopeless? The right balance between achievable but yet ambitious goals can be found by discussing with the one concerned.
Whether in your offices or in a home-working situation, make sure everyone has the necessary resources to exercise his/her function.
Do you know if they all have a high-performance Wi-Fi connection at home? A headset with a microphone? An appropriate office chair? They must be able to work without connection issues, make calls despite ambient noise, and work without suffering from back pain.
These small items have a direct impact on their work and well-being.
You have to favor continuous adjustments.
Your company is an ecosystem in perpetual movement. Each change requires some adjustment to ensure the balance to be preserved. Some people leave, new people arrive, the generations evolve, there are sometimes intergenerational conflicts… your corporate culture is in constant evolution.
Make sure it evolves in the right direction and that all new joiners feel part of it. The dialogue in a spirit of mutual respect and consideration is very important here.
Building a strong culture is a key asset for facing new challenges!
Is it worth pointing out the importance of constructive feedback?
Have you ever completed a task without any feedback on it? Without knowing if it was well done, or if everything had been rectified and modified behind you?
When we talk about feedback, it’s not simply a matter of saying “it’s good” or “it’s bad”. Feedback, whether positive or negative, must be constructive. It is necessary to communicate what was good or not so good, and, most importantly, to communicate how to improve it. Your role is to guide your team through this continuous improvement.
Constructive feedback includes guidance, advice, and explanations. It gives your collaborators the opportunity to progress much faster, to gain confidence in their skills, and to become more efficient and productive! It saves time and frustration for everyone.
Constructive and regular feedback:
✅ boosts efficiency
✅ boosts well-being
